SPONSORED BY: Prospect Press We have developed a custom virtual machine to provide hands-on lab activities for courses covering Data Communications, Networks, and IT Infrastructure, which we will demo at this workshop. These activities help students gain a practical understanding of the logical layers in the OSI model. These labs come at no additional cost with Business Data Communication & IT Infrastructures from Prospect Press and are useful in hybrid, online, and flipped classroom formats and traditional in-person delivery.

Many faculty members view academic leadership in their universities with some trepidation while others are very interested in the possibilities it presents. In this PDS organized by the College of Academic Leadership, we examine the transition points in academe – the first job in university administration – with the intent of demystifying the journey from faculty member to academic leader. The five panelists will be experienced current or former department chairs, deans, and associate deans.

Cloud computing has quickly become a significant portion of enterprise infrastructure and a desired skill for information systems students. Here, we will discuss our experiences with incorporating cloud computing in our courses. We will look at the specific topics that have worked well, issues that we encountered and resources that we have found helpful. In particular, we will present educational resources that are available from various cloud providers and particularly from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This workshop is intended to bring together both experienced and inexperienced reviewers to discuss strategies to review in such a way as to respect effort of authors with a view towards helping authors reach the potential of their papers while also respecting the time and effort of reviewers. Attendees will be asked to bring two reviews –one they found extremely helpful and one they found extremely unhelpful (or even harmful)–to form the basis of discussion.

Qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), a set-theoretic method to build a configurational theory, has been drawing increasing attention of IS researchers interested in investigating these complex digital phenomena using a configurational approach within a systems perspective. QCA integrates the strengths of both case-oriented qualitative methods and variable-oriented quantitative methods. This workshop will foster discussion about how QCA can help IS researchers build novel, richer theories and help IS scholars apply QCA to their research.

SPONSORED BY: Prospect Press To describe functional requirements, agile approaches prefer the brevity of user stories over more detailed use cases. But many software projects are inconsistent with agile assumptions, leading to the familiar idea of elaborating user stories with use cases. However, little specific guidance exists for doing this. This workshop provides that guidance, including a tutorial example. Further, we illustrate how use case principles can improve writing user stories, even when use cases, themselves, are not employed.

Presented by Gary Spurrier and Heikki Topi

Thursday, August 12, 2021- 4:00 PM-6:00 PM EDT

This workshop presents (1) an understanding of theory; (2) the nature of process and identification of various types thereof; (3) how IS is a domain exemplified by process and why process theory should be welcomed in IS; (4) approaches to studying IS phenomena as process theory; and (5) developing “infrastructure’ for evaluating process theory and establishing its credibility. Session will be participative and focus on participants’ areas of interest.

Participants will submit a short paragraph describing their interest in the topic and how they might use its content in the future.
